ArrangeMe is a Hal Leonard Corporation product (the same corporation that issues custom arrangement licensing). ArrangeMe allows arrangers to create and sell stock sheet music of copyrighted musical works to the public. Arrangers must execute a work made for hire agreement and in return receive a percent of the sales price (typically 10% to 12%). Tresóna recommends that arrangers wishing to lawfully create and sell stock arrangements use the ArrangeMe platform.
However, ArrangeMe cannot be used to circumvent print (custom arrangement) licensing. Per ArrangeMe's terms, arrangers must agree and acknowledge the following:
I hereby acknowledge and confirm that I have read and agree to ArrangeMe's Terms of Use . . . I understand ArrangeMe prohibits hosting of commissioned arrangements for use by a single ensemble and such arrangements must instead be licensed as custom arrangements via the Licensing Exchange . . .. [1]
Per ArrangeMe's Terms of Use:
Each Seller represents and warrants that . . . A COArrangement . . . (ii) is subject to usage limitations and may not be sold, leased, lent, rented, or otherwise distributed for explicit use by a professional symphony or string orchestra, professional concert or wind band, professional small ensembles, nor exclusive competitive use (including but not limited to show choir, marching band, percussion ensembles), and (iii) must be made available for public distribution and sale. In addition, Sellers will not use the Service for the distribution and sale of custom arrangements for ensembles of any size intended for the exclusive use of the commissioning ensemble . . . For the avoidance of doubt, COArrangements specifically intended for competitive use are not permitted. [2]
Custom arrangement licensing is a valuable source of royalty income for print publishers' (including Hal Leonard's) songwriters and publishers.
